The Scarlet Paper
A Woman is a Dangerous Thing To Waste...
Wednesday, December 22, 2004

Russell Simmons needs to contact Martha Stewart. According to Yahoo! she is calling for reforms in prison sentencing not just for nonviolent first time offenders but for reform in drug sentencing too.

I am done finally with this semester and I feel a little strange, without purpose. Now comes the mad rush to get holiday presents even though I tell myself every year that I won't get swept up into the consumerism, I still find myself at the mall looking for "just a little something" for my family members. The semester isn't even officially over and I find myself frantically checking for grade postings three times a day. I am such a nerd.

It's going to be a very hungry Christmas for starving children this year.
President Bush, in an effort to curb the outrageous deficit, is cutting $100 million from Food Aid programs. In my opinion, if you want to win the war on terrorism, if it is a winnable war, stop blowing up villages and hand the poor people a sandwich. If they are less hungry and desperate they will be able to think rationably about wearing strap-on explosives and walking into an army base.

There is a lot I have to say about the state of healthcare, pharmaceuticals companies, the NIH, the FDA, and HMO's, but that will have to wait until I can formulate a full, coherent blog posting. Until then, smell ya later.

If you have any news you want me to post or thoughts you want to discuss feel free to contact me or post it in the comments section below. Priests Giving Hitler Salute
Originally uploaded by scarletpimp.
In a recent visit to a New York Synagogue, Antonin Scalia, the Supreme Court Justice, stated that Jews are safer with Christians in charge. This is not the first time I have heard rightwing Christian Coalitions use Hitler in an argument for Christianity or even to use slavery and Martin Luther King Jr. to bash Democrats and progressive movements.

Read the Meet the Press transcripts from this Sunday and you will see what I mean. In the year 2004, we are still arguing over the legal right to slavery in this country. Skip the first segment and skip down to the end.

Back to the Jews, I can't believe there wasn't a riot in the synagogue. I would have taken off my shoe and aimed it straight for his head. Scalia's reasoning was " the reason Hitler was able to initiate the Holocaust was because of German separation of church and state." He later went on to say, "Did it turn out that," Scalia asked rhetorically, "by reason of the separation of church and state, the Jews were safer in Europe than they were in the United States of America?" He then answered himself, saying, "I don't think so."

Let me just set the record straight on where dictators, political parties, etc. sit on the left-right spectrum.

Extreme Right: Hitler
Extreme Left: Stalin

In the middle area is where you fing most moderates such as the major parties- Democrats and Republicans. To the left are the socialists, to the right are the conservatives.

For the Right- the Christian Coalition to use the examples of Hitler and the abolition of slavery against the left is to forgo all of history and essentially rewrite it. Whatever the case may be, Jews of the world need to be on guard. It is only a matter of time before they get sick of picking on the Muslims and the brown people. They are already playing the game and trying to make the Jewish people pick a side based on emotions.
